Love Actually revisited.

23:16 Jun 29 2012
Times Read: 669

I just watched ‘Love Actually’ again. This must be the sixth time (if not more), considering the film is not even ten years old that is some kind of feat for me. I’ve even added to my journal about this film in the past (probably more than once) and I guess it’s all about being in the right place at the right or wrong time depending on if you like the film or not. I happen to like the film and for some reason or another it makes me go all silly and tearful whilst making me smile all at the same time. When I first saw the film I got busy downloading various tracks that I liked, to be honest it would have been easier to have just bought the CD!

Luck and me

Times Read: 691

I’ve had a hard day, a very hard day and I was hot and bothered. Don’t get me wrong it’s been a rewarding day and well earned.

I needed a better evening, a more relaxed evening and I was in luck, not just any luck but the sort of luck I thought I deserved.

I turned on the TV and plotted my evening view. It was 6.30pm and at 7pm was ‘The Big Bang’, 30 mins of viewing was set into the control’s reminder. Then at 7pm was ‘Dr. Who that was till 8pm (also set into the reminder). I thought the evening couldn’t get better and as I flicked through the channels I found (starting at 9pm ‘The Dead Poets Society’. I smiled as I set the reminder for that and thanked my luck how all the program’s just fitted perfectly. I deserved it but how did ‘they’ know?!!

I have to add that ‘The Dead Poets Society’ is in my top 3 all time films.

My daughter has started talking at 100mph. I sometimes wish I could hit a ‘translate button’ like on FB (only more reliable than Bing).

The gist is she wants to help me move and I refuse to take her out of school for the day. She explained that since completing her exams they aren’t really having full lessons as the school will close for the summer very soon. This was conveyed to me in two seconds flat with a second to spare.

My opinion!

20:52 Jun 25 2012
Times Read: 754

So we give ‘Honour’ to whoever we want to. We do it for different and in my case personal reasons. But truthfully I think it should be treated more like the ‘LIKE’ button is to FB (albeit limited)!

To honour someone is a great and respectful act and the way I see members ‘honour bombing’ and asking others to chip in just devalues the word for me.

A poem:

She offered her honour

He honoured her offer,

And all night long

It was honour and offer.

Ha! It's incredible people actually ask! But, we have to remember this 'honour' ( word used lightly) is only pertaining to vampire rave, a virtual realm inside a website.. and not to the real world. There is Emmy's for that lol!

sahahria
sahahria
22:14 Jun 25 2012

There are instances I completely agree with you, and in others where I differ. Simply because I have seen people not get recognition for things that should esteem "honour" even in the virtual sense. Sometimes you simply have to ask to have it be known.

Then there are the silly times, and those should be just fun- after all, for me that is one of my big reasons for participation here on VR, fun.

imagesinwords

22:16 Jun 25 2012

I agree with you 100%... But I guess I learned here that people don't always use it for the true meaning of the word. That, and, I gather some people's understanding of the word is quite different from mine. I can't imagine ever asking in the offline realm for someone to compliment me and pay me with high esteem.

Joli
Joli
07:42 Jun 27 2012

I've been silly and joyful about honoring people I believe in who deserve to be honored. I'd never suggest it otherwise. Have you never suggested that someone you respect and believe in should be recognized? We say silly things perhaps, to make that person smile...but the honor belongs in their court. How can that result devalue the word or the concept?

My opinion.

BLOODLIFE
BLOODLIFE
14:12 Jun 27 2012

Joli your opinions are always important to me and 'yes' I have suggested that someone I respect be recognised, that would be you as I love your poetry and other various posts. But for me to honour someone I would need to know more about them rather than just take someones word for it. Honouring is not a reflex action, it comes with respect and time. Luv you. x

10:25 Jun 28 2012

I just don't get the honour thingy, it's just another part of the way the social engineering on this site has developed.. I know every one likes to be...liked, but bloody hell give it a break!! Typical Americans *confrontational chuckles*

This is supposed to be a Vampire ..Dark Network site, not a like me, love me site. *Sighs*I suppose I come to this conclusion because I am British and don't feel the need to tell everyone how great they are or how much I love them....because of my conditioning

imagesinwords
imagesinwords
23:36 Jun 29 2012

It's quite different to suggest someone else be honored as deserved than to ask for honor yourself. I have also suggested people be honored, Well... One person- Cancer... Because it is strange that he's not on top when I do believe he should be. I have never asked for people to give it to me- that's what always makes me wonder. I don't ask people to all get together and give everything to one person either. Honor should be used as you see fit. People ask for that because they want to see a certain friend on the top. And we know that doesn't mean they are the most honorable- just the person who's got a small group keeping them on a list- like top journals, most friends... None mean the most people are reading the journals or that they really have the most 'friends'.

Theban
Theban
14:08 Jun 30 2012

Perhaps a page would have been better and a vote every month.... ; )

However now that we have honour, I agree that the big man himself should be at the very top of all the lists for the work that he puts in. it should also be closely followed by Admin*chuckles*

This weekend was the first anniversary of a good friend’s marriage. I can’t believe how fast the year had gone. We got discussing how the big types of weddings are in decline and have been heading that way over the years.

I think we kid ourselves when we say we want a small intimate ‘do’ with just a few family and friends in attendance. Now days it’s all mainly about the cost! Sure there are other reasons but in the main it’s all about money.

It was over ten years ago that I attended my last big wedding with live band, disco, four course meal, with loads of bridesmaids and all the other trimmings. I miss the old days!

Does everyone wait for me to go to bed before journaling? I was happy with myself for catching up with all the reads I managed yesterday as:

A) I had the day to myself and

B) Not many people were writing.

This enabled me to catch up, but this morning it would seem that everyone and their mothers have written an entry overnight!

The one thing I have stopped doing in my journal is writing poetry. When you’ve read a few members works you realize that your own is insignificant and of a poor quality. That said I still will write them as I do this for myself, as some are like a memory or a bookmark if you will.

For someone who has been told he procrastinates a lot I will say that I do sometimes act on instinct and off the cuff too.... and get into mega trouble.

My latest f&*% up was when I discovered I could bring all my friends from FB chat to MSN and chat from there. Firstly I don’t chat to all my friends on FB but now every time they sign in or out I get pop ups and pings! Now I have to find a way to take them off this listing as it’s so annoying. I will now see it that procrastination is a good thing and to thank people when they moan at me for taking my time.

Judged!

10:42 Jun 23 2012
Times Read: 841

I don’t get this whole ‘judging culture’. Are members using the right word or have they just taken it out of context? ‘’Don’t judge me’’ is the call of the day.

We do a lot of judging in ordinary everyday things, that’s human nature, we even judge ourselves. Are we not allowed an opinion or is that called judging too?

If I don’t like your political view, am I judging you or simply questioning your politics (judging your political view)? The same could be said for lifestyles, religion, food you eat, in fact practically anything.

"When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself."

Wayne Dyer

There is only one that can truly judge you so to quote from the Book of Judges:

“And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of G-d was in him, to do judgment.”

You are right, it is taken out of context. We all judge in terms of forming opinions. And that's not supposed to be the judgment we *can't* do. As you know in Judaism, it is the Orthodox view that you hold each other accountable for keeping the laws- so there's that. What we aren't supposed to do in the Christian ethic is pass final judgement, or to assume to know how God would handle things. Heck, Abraham wheeled and dealed his way with God in trying to save Sodom- and who would ever have thought that God would allow it- yet it happened. So we as mere people just don't know, can't know, and shouldn't assume someone's ultimate fate with the Almighty.

We all know right from wrong and we should choose accordingly, for the benefit of *everyone*. But what happens if we choose otherwise is simply not our call.

We all judge, and in many ways we should be judging. Leaving our personal decision-making skills behind is far from a good idea.

Converting a Bear

21:04 Jun 22 2012
Times Read: 853

I belong to a group on FB simply called ‘Jewish Cooking’. It’s a friendly group and every now and again someone posts a joke or two, this one caught my eye! It was called..........

Converting a Bear

A rabbi, priest, and a preacher meet every Monday in a coffee shop to talk things over about their spiritual life.

One day, the priest makes a bet with the other guys that he could convert a bear in the woods over to his religion. The others nod and say "Yeah, I'll bet we could do it quicker than you could!"

So they all agree that the next time they meet, they'll share stories about how they were able to convert a bear.

They all end up in the hospital, but the priest is in the best shape of all of them. They decide to meet in the rabbi's room. The priest has his arm in a sling and says, "Yeah, it was tough at first, but I was able to dash it with some holy water. The next thing I know, it started saying Hail Mary. He's coming to mass this Sunday."

The other two clergymen nod in approval, and the preacher goes next. The preacher is in pretty bad shape. He's in a wheel chair, and he has a concussion, a broken leg, and a broken arm. He says "Well, when I finally happened upon it, I wrestled that thing to the ground and started beating its head with a Bible. So he lunges at me and we tumble down this hill into the river where I dunked him seven times. Finally, he came to the faith. He'll be coming to church next Sunday."

Both men turn to the rabbi to hear his story. The rabbi looks like he got the worst of it. He's in a body cast and there's no way he's getting out of bed any time soon. He looks at both men and says "Well, I probably should've started with something different than circumcision...."

OCD

I think we all have OCD and ‘funny problems', the thing is identifying them and owning up and writing about them for all to see and understand.

What if this was the norm, what if everyone did have their very own OCD. I've never met anyone that didn't have some sort of anxiety about anything.

There are a few members on here already journaling about it which I believe is very brave.

Slow Down..!

12:55 Jun 20 2012
Times Read: 909

Technology is moving very fast and it seems that speed is what people want. With software speeding along quite nicely with more and more apps to play with I have had to slow things down my end as the hardware is just not keeping up.

I now carry a lead out to my car to plug my MP3 player in which means I don’t have to burn discs (as often) or indeed listen to cheap CDR's that can and will occasionally skip, jump or freeze. Why they haven’t come up with a decent quality cheap CD to burn I will never know!

I once was privy to a conversation about the sound quality of a CD compared to an MP3. The bottom line is that it’s true that an MP3 does loose some quality but that the human ear is not good enough to detect it. Of course this is a generalisation and some people have a very sensitive ear but they are very much in a minority.

The car stereo I have my eye on has a built in MP3/CD player that you can either load to from a key or simply listen to it directly from the key. That’s a little heaven for me.

The Forum

09:55 Jun 19 2012
Times Read: 934

Reading stuff offline works for me and has nothing to do with the ‘What BLOODLIFE is doing’ addition as I was doing this long before this new addition came along.

I come offline mainly in the main forum as I know that in the past I may have posted something that has been misinterpreted and consequently upset members which has never been my intent.

The main forum frustrates me more as I see people comment completely off topic and then others adding to that train of thought no matter how the genuine members of that thread try to bring it back on target. This then lends itself to a lengthy and heavy going type of read for those interested.

Oh yea, and what’s with the posts like, ‘great thread, very interesting’ or ‘thanks for posting this’!! Why not send them a PM and save your comments less a decent thread gets closed due to length rather than input!

So this is why I read the forum offline as I could so easily say/post stuff that would offend!

I will add that I give kudos to the staff who do a great job keeping this controlled but it seems they too are overwhelmed.

It would amuse me to know how many women related to her kick ass character. I know I’m always the hero in the guy films or at least I wish I was!

We won 2-3. But what a terrible typical performance that was. We didn’t need to make it as hard as that, but we did, why? Because we’re England. Always making it hard for ourselves. Always making the other side look better than they actually are.

I’m not a Rooney fan but at least we have him back in the squad for the Ukraine game. Wake up England and sort out those niggardly little things that are the difference between coming home early or going through.

It’s only half time and my nerves are shot. We lead this match 1-0 against a poor Sweden side. A game where we have dominated and had most of the possession and cracked more shots on target yet England being England have not upped the pace and finished this game. Now we will go into the second half knowing that one mistake will rob us of this match. I should be sitting back enjoying the game and not worrying every time the Swedes get the ball in our half on the field.

Take Your Daughter to Work Day?

16:24 Jun 15 2012

A single mother from Wales has caused somewhat of a firestorm by posting a photo of herself rock climbing with her two-year-old daughter strapped to her back. They’re pretty high up a rock face, and the woman is wearing a helmet — but not the kid.

From the London Daily Mail:

Our Mom of the Year is Menna Pritchard, 26, and she has a perfectly logical explanation:

“I can appreciate if you didn’t realize how safe the environment I was in, it could be worrying, but I was top-roping which means if you fall you don’t fall any further than where you came off.

“It is the safest form of climbing you can do. I was also in a beach environment surrounded by experienced climbers. Health and safety legislation and the sue and blame culture mean so many people are nervous, so afraid of getting into trouble, and taking small risks. Life is all about risks, whether that’s something as simple as getting in your car every day or climbing up a rock face.”

Yes, that damn “sue and blame culture.” They ruin everyone’s fun.

I can’t help but look at that photo and think of the Popeye cartoon in which Sweet Pea, the baby, gets out of the house and is crawling across girders being swung by a crane several stories up at a construction site.

And to think people got into such an uproar when 13-year-old Jordan Romero climbed Mt. Everest. What were you doing when you were two, kid?

Onions

That has to be the most pungent onion ever! Just cutting the rascal in half began to see the tears start. I was opening one eye then the other but had to concede half way through as my nose began to run too. I wonder if it’s an age thing where my eyes just aren’t strong enough anymore!?!

Shenandoah (1965)

I think James Stewart (May 20, 1908 – July 2, 1997) was one of the best actors of his time and on seeing this film again for the umpteenth time reminds me just why I liked his style. The film itself is based loosely around the American civil war where he is the father to six sons and one daughter. He believes that it’s not his war and so ignores it until……

This is from the film when he tries to explain ‘women’ to a suitor for his only daughter. Summing up women was never so easy!

This is a simple advert that promotes ‘Oreos’. I happen to like them but it’s the advert. I can’t make up my mind about the little girl, is she just too cute? Or is there something disturbing going on? It just creeps me out!

My daughter just thinks I’m threatened by a child’s intellect! But what do kids know huh?!!

Notice has been given (last Friday), I am so excited as I have a move date that would see me back in London by the 27th July at the very latest. It will be sooner if the agency can find a new tenant for this flat but I will have the keys to the new place within a couple of weeks. I’m negotiating as to if they will give me a months’ grace or at least a reduced fee as I can’t afford rent in two places even if it is for just one month, if not I’ll have to manage so we will see.

I’m just so excited. I took my daughter over there last Wednesday to look over the flat as her opinion is very important to me and she loves it when I discuss the important things in my life with her. She loved it and was already plotting bus routes and looking online at timetables to visit.

When I know more I will so be writing about it.

While I know little about him- she has always fascinated me. How she stayed in London during the bombing, becoming Queen at a young age, her grace. Wonderful woman all around. :)

I was so touched to see all the people, in the bad weather and all, turn out to cheer the Queen. That will probably be the last Diamond Jubliee most of us will see, as Charles certainly won't live long enough to have one, nor William unless something dramatic happens right soon! anyway it was great to watch. Even from this far away.

So I haven’t spoken much about me moving back to London of late and with things going well with me I guess I just didn’t want to jinx anything (I’m silly like that).

The start of this four day Jubilee weekend has so far given me a chance to get the needed boxes I was after out the loft and to do a little packing of the non-essentials. I had stuff still in boxes from my last move which makes me think why I’m even holding on to that crap but the majority were empty (it was like I knew I’d be needing them one day). When I moved in here I sold my DVD collection of about 500 films, my CD’s (over 1000 albums), records (over 3000 LP’s alone) and my hi-fi (didn’t need that anymore), so that I would have space. All the CD’s were loaded onto my PC and backed up. It really was a heartbreaking decision to sell them all but it was my only course of action. Anyway (I digress), I found in one box (that was obviously missed) about 200 45’s. I can’t begin to tell you how I felt. I read every single title, I swear if I still had my deck I would have played them all and reminisce.

Something else occurred once I tore myself away from the records and that was as I began to pack ornaments and mementos from my family that had been handed down, I realized I was remembering these generations of people that I had once known and loved. A red piece of glassware that was my great grand mothers that was once a pair but only this one remaining was lovingly enveloped into bubble wrap and stored. There is no economic value attached to these pieces as they will never be realized but with each piece that was wrapped came a memory of them or a story that had been handed down. I will say this, it took me all day just to do a fraction of what I had hoped to achieve but I believe I did so much more.

G-d Save the Queen

A long-weekend of celebrations to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee. In addition to the late-May bank holiday (June 4 2012), there is an additional bank hol on June 5, 2012. Events to mark the Queen's sixtieth year as monarch include a river pageant (June 3, 2012) with the Queen, travelling in the royal barge, leading a flotilla of around 1,000 boats on the Thames, the Big Jubilee Lunch (June 3, 2012), in which neighbours are encouraged to share lunch or hold a street party, a BBC concert at Buckingham Palace (June 4, 2012), the lighting of a chain of 2,012 beacons across the country (June 4, 2012), a service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral and a carriage procession on the Mall (Jun 5, 2012).

(as reported in time out)

We just need the weather and ta daaaaa!
